Do not hear any outrage about the 17%+ NET profit which UPS posted, which by the way dwarfed the profit of virtually every oil company, both in pure percentage and just plain dollars.
Nothing but a bunch of mind numbed dunderhead robots reading from your talking points memos.

A goof-ball article written by a goof-ball reporter working for a goof-ball dot com company. Who compares a company's quarterly income with some random country's GNP. Ah, let's look on a website that will list countries' annual GNP and for fun, compare it with a company we don't like, because we hate the free enterprise system.

I'd gladly take the .4 billion off their hands so that they don't have to deal with decimals.

No matter how you slice it, $9.4 billion in a quarter is a lot of cash.
Yet, as a fervent capitalist, I don't have much pity for Big Oil when they beg for more tax breaks while millions of Americans wonder how to put food on the table.
I'm just hoping they will reward their shareholders with some of this bonanza. To paraphrase Mitt Romney, shareholders are people, too. :)

I definitely am not a greenie, tree hugging, 1%'er!!!
But...... $9.4 BILLION NET INCOME!!! In one quarter!!
Even if the NET profit were $8 billion, that would be impressive as heck! If only they could afford the $1.4 billion dollars to help lower the price of domestic gas,,,, then I would be really impressed!

As kx250 points out, a 7 73% profit margin and the whiners come out.
XOM PROFIT MARGIN
Displayed as a percentage, profit margin can be thought as the amount of profit that a company keeps per dollar of revenue. For example, if a company has a profit margin of 7.73%, the company keeps $.0773 of each dollar of revenue.
That's right 7 and 3/4 pennies out of every dollar of revenue.
PIG GOVERNMENT loves ya now baby!

almost 10 billion in profit in a 3 month period yet they complain that an increase in taxes would take away from the profit margin. let me get my violin.

I am not against capitalism or companies making a profit. However, I am against market manipulation, price fixing, and excessive profits that hinders our country's economic growth. Remember the saying, sometimes you need to sacrifice the few to save the many. In this case, the few could have been the penny per share profit above expectation that was already based on record profits.
People who claim, "Stockholders have a right to make a profit" are wrong, stockholders do not have a RIGHT to a profit, they have an EXPECTATION that a company will make a profit.
BTW - the article was old news that was published more than 6 days ago at least.

If you can't beat em - join em. Buy those oil stocks now and get in on the profits. You rarely see big oil losing money.

The way the oil industry has been pushing up prices, I'm surprised they didn't post higher profits. They must be sending more on management bonuses!
